Cardiac Clearance for Bariatric Surgery: How Long Is It Good For?

A Poplawski Bariatric reader submitted a question: How long is cardiac clearance good for?

cardiac clearance for bariatric surgeryThe answer is, that it depends. How long your cardiac clearance for bariatric surgery lasts really depends on how serious your cardiac problems are. Someone with a history of known underlying cardiac disease, that is being treated, may need to be seen by the cardiologist right before the operation. However someone who has seen a cardiologist without having a history of cardiac disease, and everything is in good shape, well that cardiac clearance could last for several months before a reasonable thinking person would need to repeat it.

So the answer is that it depends. In most cases, there are some special things that need consideration before preceeding with bariatric surgery. Getting cardiac clearance is just a matter of gathering information so that we can do the surgery as safely as possible.
